As Neuro Visual Optometrists, we understand that proper binocular vision is essential for our patients’ overall visual health. Binocular vision dysfunction can cause problems such as double vision, headaches, dizziness, and eyestrain. It is a condition that requires specialized treatment and care to manage effectively.
Post-COVID Infection Leading To Binocular Vision Dysfunction
Recently, there have been reports of patients who have experienced binocular vision dysfunction following a COVID-19 infection. The virus has been shown to affect various systems of the body, including the visual system. The Neuro Visual Center of New York has seen an increase in patients experiencing visual problems related to COVID-19.
Binocular Vision Dysfunction Explained
Binocular vision dysfunction occurs when the eyes do not work together correctly. This can cause problems with depth perception, eye tracking, and eye teaming. Patients with binocular vision dysfunction may experience double vision, headaches, and eye strain. Even symptoms not commonly associated with eyes can occur, such as dizziness, brain fog, and neck pain.
The signs and symptoms of binocular vision dysfunction can be subtle, and patients may not even realize that they have a problem. The Neuro Visual examination is designed to detect even the smallest eye misalignments.
At The Neuro Visual Center of New York, we specialize in treating binocular vision dysfunction. Our team of experts is trained to diagnose and manage a wide range of visual problems, including those related to post-COVID-19. We use advanced diagnostic tools to assess our patients’ visual function and develop personalized treatment plans to help them see clearly and comfortably.

Hello i am from germany and i don’t know what to do. I had covid back in march this year and i’ve been struggling with binocular diplopia since then. i had multiple visits to optometrists, neurologists and been through mri as well. mri came back unremarkable and my optometrists says it may resolve on it’s own. they prescribed prisms to help with the double vision but they aren’t working 100% and i’m still dealing with pretty intense dizziness and headaches almost daily. it also gets worse when stressed/tired.
what can i do

We are so sorry that you are suffering. Our only thing we can offer without seeing you is to close one eye.

I have all of the symptoms of bvd post covid, the most offensive being a chronic motion sick, lightheaded dizzy feeling. However, with that comes heart rate spikes. Have you noticed this trend at your clinic? I’m having a hard time finding any literature linking the two.
Dr. Cheryl Berger Israeloff says
Yes, but also dysautonomia post COVID. You should be checked for that since the symptoms can overlap.

i have had binocular diplopia for over a year now. I have been to two different neuro-opthamologists and they both ordered tests. I have had 2 brain MRIs, orbit MRI, MG work up and nothing shows. The last one prescribed prism glasses but they still don’t correct great up close. It’s getting worse over time. I’m just looking for answers. Is this something you do? I will gladly send all my test results for you to review.
Dr. Cheryl Berger Israeloff says
Hi Suzanne,
Yes we treat double vision. Often times there is no cause found and it is just a decompensation of the muscles. Feel free to contact the office if you are in need of better correction .
