For people who experience vision-related problems such as migraines and dizziness, double vision symptoms, blurred vision, balance issues and anxiety, relief can be hard to find. This is because these and similar symptoms are often the result of the eyes being out of alignment with each other. Because this misalignment isn’t usually found during a standard eye exam, due to the fact that most optometrists don’t have the necessary equipment or training to do so, many of these patients are left to suffer from the effects of this little-known condition. The cause is a binocular function disorder known as vertical heterophoria (VH).
Helping a Young Man Get His Life Back
Dr. Cheryl had just such an experience with a patient. She met with a young man who had recently started to experience headaches and dizziness. The symptoms began suddenly, resolved for about a week, then returned with a vengeance and became much more severe. He was seen by multiple doctors, neurologists, ENTs, ophthalmologists and internists. All of his tests – MRI, MRA, CAT scan – came back negative, however. Eventually, he wound up at a neuro-ophthalmologist who, using many of the tests that we use for our neurovisual exams here at the Neuro Visual Center of New York, found a vertical misalignment of his eyes. After identifying the problem as vertical heterophoria, the doctor gave him a press-on prism to realign his eyes. While this was a good start, the press-on prisms blur the vision and look unsightly, which bothered this image-conscious college student.
Upon researching VH, the young man discovered that Dr. Debby Feinberg is the expert in this field, and has helped thousands of patients with the same problems he’d been experiencing. The family was so happy that Dr. Debby had trained a doctor in New York who they could see: Dr. Cheryl Israeloff. At his first visit with Dr. Cheryl, the young man was quite agitated, and she could tell that he was in a lot of discomfort. He just wasn’t feeling well, and it was affecting his schoolwork and social life.
Experience the ‘Wow Moment’
Dr. Cheryl still recounts what a wonderful experience she had with this young man that day. When there’s a 50% reduction in a patient’s dizziness within just 20 minutes of the prism application, we call that a “wow moment” here at the Neuro Visual Center! These moments of healing are what make us proud to do our job, and humbled to be able to help so many people get back on the road to healing. If you think you might be suffering from the effects of VH, contact us by calling (516) 224-4888. We would love to help you experience your own “wow moment”!
