If you’ve been told that prisms will not help your headache, dizziness or balance problems, don’t give up. There’s still hope, even if you’ve failed with prism treatment in the past. Our method at the Neuro Visual Center of New York is very different from that of other optometrists because it follows the techniques taught by of one of the top neurovisual specialists in the country, Dr. Debby Feinberg of Vision Specialists of Michigan.
How the Feinberg Method Came About
Dr. Debby began her life-changing work in the diagnosis and treatment of BVD in 1995, when she discovered a way to identify the very slight visual misalignments that regular eye exams miss. Over the course of almost 25 years, Dr. Debby has treated thousands of patients, many of whom suffered from post-concussive syndrome. Not content to keep these revolutionary treatment methods to herself, however, Dr. Debby began teaching others her technique, which became known as the Feinberg method. One of her first students was our very own Dr. Cheryl Berger Israeloff.
What a Neurovisual Examination Entails
Neurovisual examinations at the Neuro Visual Center of New York include many unique tests which not only help detect very subtle eye misalignments in both the vertical and horizontal planes, but also aid in determining exactly where prism needs to be placed to correct the problem. Many times, prism treatment fails due to the simple fact that the prism is placed in the wrong direction.
We use extremely small increments of prism power to arrive at the patient’s optimum prescription. This prescription gets modified over the course of two to three visits as the patient’s eye muscles relax. At the end of treatment, we’re able to see on average an 80% reduction in symptoms, with many patients no longer experiencing any headaches or dizziness at all. Once we arrive at the final prescription, only annual examinations are needed going forward. This treatment method is fast, easy and painless, and is much more affordable than ongoing vision therapy that’s often ineffective.

I live out in San Diego, California is there any Professional doctors out here that you know can diagnose vertical heterophoria or visual disorders causing symptoms of dizziness, etc. before I would decide to head out to New York?

Hello from New Zealand for the past 28 years I have been suffering from extreme eye pain
and dizziness and nausea from prescriptions. My eye pain has gotten worse but incredibly my prescription has gone down nearly a full diopter over the years for distance,I have had MRI scan etc which came up fine.
In 1978 I had a car accident frontal head trauma ,lacerations and was discharged same day,no obvious signs
of any visual problems etc.
I originally had problems with astigmatism in both eyes,if the astigmatism in the right eye was removed I
could function okay with slight dizziness but bearable, now I cant have any prescription with or without
astigmatism without getting extreme eye pain and nausea usually after a couple of hours even if the
prescription seems to be okay at first?
I have spent 28 years of my life and seen pretty much everyone and spent a significant amount of money on lenses, frames travelling etc with no result or explanation as to my problem.
I had a pre evaluation test for lasik surgery and was told because of the irregular shape and thinness of my
cornea it was not a good idea and I find contact lenses extremely uncomfortable to wear.
I would say my eyes are probably super sensitive, hope you can help,BVD is my only diagnosis I can see
at the moment as to my ongoing nightmare, best regards Nicholas King, New Zealand

In Washington state. Currently having these symptoms and I have had concussions in the past. I also have an astigmatism in my right eye that is pretty strong. I suffer from severe vertigo attacks as well as vertigo with movement. No one out here can diagnose this. I don’t even know which doctor to bring it up with. I wish that you would make this method available to more doctors.
Dr. Cheryl Berger Israeloff says
